VAR Committees

Join a VAR Committee it is a great way to lead your association as well as network and make some new friends! Time commitment varies

Budget/Finance Committee:
Its role is to oversee the financial affairs of the Valley Association of REALTORS®, Inc. and to review and make recommendations to the Board of Directors about the financial affairs and policies of the Association. The Committee meets at least two times per year.

Member Services Committee:
Evaluates and recommends membership applications to the Valley Association of Realtors®, Inc.  Instructs New Member Orientation Class.  The committee meets once per month.

Grievance Committee:
The Grievance Committee is responsible for making determinations as to whether there is any validity to a complaint that would justify holding a full hearing. Committee meets only when needed.

Professional Standards Committee:
The Professional Standards Committee provides hearing panels to determine matters of alleged unethical conduct by Members and arbitrates disputes regarding entitlement to compensation in cooperative transactions between REALTORS®.  Serve on hearing panels as needed.

Education Committee:
The Education Committee develops and schedules continuing education classes on issues affected the real estate industry.  Committee meets only when needed.

Government Relations Committee:
The Government Relations Committee is responsible for formulating public policy positions consistent with CAR's Statement of Policy, advocating the REALTOR® viewpoint on proposed bills or regulations and, in doing so, informing members and lawmakers of the effects of such legislation on property owners and the real estate business. The Committee also encourages members to become involved in CAR's advocacy role. The Committee meets monthly during the legislative session.

By-Laws Committee:
The By-Laws Committee adheres to the National Association of REALTORS® By-Laws changes and reviews.  The Committee only meets when needed.

Scholarship Committee:
The Scholarship Committee awards a scholarship to one boy and one girl from each of the Valley’s public high schools in the following locations: Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, and Shelton.  Scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. Eligible students must have a 3.0 or higher grade point average and be officially enrolled in higher education. The Committee meets only when needed.

RPAC Committee:
The RPAC Committee strives to build better government relations on state and local level.  Encourages REALTORS® participation in government affairs and activities.  Develops and implements fund-raising programs to promote member investments for RPAC.  The committee meets as needed. (Sign up link)

Program & Sponsorship Committee:
The Program committee plans and conducts programs for members (and friends of members) to network and have fun!  VAR promotes leadership and professional growth by providing educational and social networking events in a casual, progressive and fun environment.  The Sponsorship committee establishes new sponsor relations and maintains current ones.  The committee meets as needed.
